Commitment Phobia...

Commitment phobia....So I know a lot of people who suffer from it. I suffered from it. Its the most confusing thing in the whole damn world! Considering there are so many of us, obviously there have been very smart/profound things that have been said about it. Here's a few that could possibly help fence-sitters take the plunge or find the first exit! Yeah this is my idea of doing good for society :)

The God of Commitment-phobes "Hugh Grant"

"Henrietta: Charles! Charles, we must talk.
Charles: Right.
Henrietta: The thing is, Charlie, l've spoken to lots of people about you. Everybody agrees you're in real trouble, Charles.
Charles: Am l?
Henrietta: You see, you're turning into a kind of serial monogamist. One girlfriend after another, yet you never really let anyone near you. On the contrary... You're affectionate to them and sweet to them. Even to me, although you thought I was an idiot.
Charles: I did not.
Henrietta: You did. I thought U2 was a type of submarine.
Charles: In a way, you were right. Their music has a naval quality.
Henrietta: Be serious, Charles. Give people a chance. You don't have to think 'I must get married', but you mustn't start relationships thinking 'I mustn't get married'.
Charles: Most of the time I don't think at all. I just potter along.
Henrietta: Charlie! Oh, God! The way you used to look at me! I just misread it, that's all. I thought you were going to propose and you were just working out how to leave. "

Another one

"Why is commitment such a big problem for a man? I think that for some reason when a man is driving down that freeway of love, the woman he's with is like an exit, but he doesn't want to get off there. He wants to keep driving. And the woman is like, "Look, gas, food, lodging, that's our exit, that's everything we need to be happy... Get off here, now!" But the man is focusing on sign underneath that says, "Next exit 27 miles," and he thinks, "I can make it." Sometimes he can, sometimes he can't. Sometimes, the car ends up on the side of the road, hood up and smoke pouring out of the engine. He's sitting on the curb all alone, "I guess I didn't realize how many miles I was racking up."

Appreciate any inputs/insights!

Working when it rains

It’s raining outside but it shouldn’t really matter,
A long drive or my career, have chosen the latter.
The greenery, the rain and the sunshine,
Oh fuck it, I still have a deadline.
But then there is a deadline everyday; so why should I care?
If I told my boss that; can you imagine her stare?
They say Life is beautiful but I frankly can’t say,
Am too busy dragging my derriere through the long fucking day.

Interesting

"So let us drink

To her, – but think

Of him who has to keep her;

And sans a wife

Let's spend our life

In bachelordom, – it's cheaper"

On writing a poem…

I have read many and understood a few,
Today I think, I will write one too…
It may rhyme, or it may be in blank,
I only hope its better, than having left the page blank.

I know the language, but I don’t think that’s enough,
I think I need a theme; else it’s going to be tough.
Should it be about love? Or life and the journey through?
But I guess it’s too late; I am already half way through.

Should I take a day off? Or should I take it slow?
Should I organize my thoughts? Or should I let it flow?
There are so many questions; and there is no rule,
I think science is better, at least I felt a lesser fool.

I have a friend who’s a poet, and I thought I could be one too
But I am an engineer, and I should have known better.
My creativity needed an outlet, and I took the call,
If I did that in engineering, a bridge or two would have fall.

Guilt

A woman wakes up in the middle of the night and shouts “Run, my husband’s home”. The guy jumps out of the bed and runs towards the window. Then he realizes that the woman is actually his wife.

Who is more wrong here? This is an extremely interesting game-theoretic example of being guilty, knowing about someone else’s guilt; and a person’s reaction thereof.

1) Was the lady wrong?
2) Or was it the guy?
3) Does one have a greater right to confront or accuse the other?
4) Should they go back to bed and pretend nothing happened?

What do you think? Let me give you another example of option 4.

Saw this short movie the other day. I absolutely loved the plot. The plot goes like this: Girl loves Boyfriend. Girl is made to marry Husband. Now, while Husband loves her, Girl still continues seeing Boyfriend. In course of time, Doctors tell Husband he is impotent but possibly his chauvinist pride makes him hide it from his wife. One night Girl breaks up with Boyfriend. She goes back to her Husband. All is good.
Few weeks later, she informs her Husband she’s pregnant. Husband hides his shock and does it rather well. Three years later when the kid is grown up and it’s a happy family, the Girl stumbles upon Husband’s medical report saying he is impotent. She cries and tells him about it. Husband says he knew it all along. They both accept it. Life goes on.

How practical is number four? What would you do?
